A delightful aspect of writing "women connect" is collaborating with a broad array of women from various backgrounds. Before writing the first issue this past November, I made a list of women friends whom I thought you'd like to meet.

I wanted to make sure the list reflected variety (just like the Body of Christ ❤️). I smile every time I look at the list. And with the sweet comments I've received from many of you…I'm glad you, too, appreciate the stories of these precious women.

Today I want you to meet, Cahleen. Actually, Dr Cahleen (McNutt) Shrier.

We met when she was a student (and I was Residence Director) at Southern California College (now Vanguard University) in Costa Mesa, California.

Cahleen is married to Paul, a practical theologian who has taught extensively at Azusa Pacific University in California, now transitioning back to his financial advisor role. They have two children, Emily and Jonathan, and were blessed with their first grandchild, Felicity, last year.

After receiving her BA in Chemistry and Biology from SCC/Vanguard, Cahleen went on to Loma Linda University.

Over the next nine years at Loma Linda, she earned her Master of Science in Physiology, her Basic Microsurgery Technician certification…and last but not least, her Ph.D. in Physiology.

For the past 29 years, Cahleen has been a biology professor at Azusa Pacific. Her interest areas include endocrinology, reproduction, and the neurobiology of stress and anxiety.

Recently I met up with Cahleen while visiting Luminate Church (formerly Covina Assembly, my home church). She invited me to an upcoming zoom presentation with Christian Women in Science where she spoke on the 'Science of Christ's Crucifixion'. It was fascinating and heart-wrenching. Oh, what our Savior endured to pay our debt!! We can never thank or praise Him enough!

Cahleen shares:

It is always good for me to teach this and remember what Christ did. I am still moved by it. It has deepened my gratitude and expanded my understanding of Christ's love.

So, who knew, when I served in the women's dorm at Vanguard - this cute young woman with dark curly hair and an infectious smile would make such a mark for Jesus in the academia world as a scientist and professor?! (Probably most of her professors knew! 🙂)

Thank you, Cahleen…Dr Shrier…for your dedication to science…and more importantly for your love and dedication to the One who was crucified and rose from the dead!

Fun fact: Cahleen's family lived near the Ott family. Her sister, Denise, became close high school friends with Nan Ott. She invited Nan to their church, and Nan gave her heart completely to Jesus. She grew close to the whole McNutt family…and went on to also graduate from Southern California College. She married my brother, Michael Popineau, and they have been in ministry together for close to forty years. Thanks, McNutts, for sharing and living out your faith! We've reaped the benefits directly!
