Women Connect: Rescued — Vicki Proffit

Years ago my sister-in-law Sylvia told me about a really dear friend and her incredible heart for ministry. When I met Vicki she lived up to everything Sylvia had said. Over the years I have appreciated staying in touch with Vicki and her passion. Of, course, I would want YOU to meet her.

Once upon a time…as in fifty-four years ago…a father (who planted a church with his wife in Killeen, Texas) had a prayer request. He asked God to please bring his daughter a man filled with the love and spirit of the Lord. A simple but a heartfelt request.

A nearby Christian university had a group of students canvas the Killeen area to invite people to the little church. Darrell Proffit was the driver.

Darrell met the pastor's daughter, Vicki. They married. (Shout-out to praying parents!!!) Today they have three biological children, two adopted children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren

Backing up a bit, while Darrell + Vicki were pastoring years ago, like her father, Vicki prayed a simple but heartfelt prayer, "Lord, what do you want from me?"

And without a doubt she heard the Lord's response, "Take care of women and children." Vicki has never wavered from that divine mandate.

From launching and directing Little Lambs Daycare, she went on to serving foster children with a women's ministry team in Colorado. That led to her becoming director at House of Promise, a faith-based residential addiction treatment program for women over eighteen years old.

For the past decade plus, Vicki has served as the Executive Director of Sarah's Home. Here they provide a sanctuary for teenage girls who are survivors of sex trafficking, as they reclaim the life God created them to live.

Their faith-based program is designed to guide each girl through the process of acknowledging her pain and empowering her in her healing journey. They provide the girls/women and their support network with the tools needed to continue healing in a healthy and sustainable way.

I wish you could hear Vicky tell the stories of God's provision for this amazing ministry. It started with an empty church building being given to them for one dollar! (You read that right! ❤️). Then so many skilled laborers donated their time and resources to convert the church building into a beautiful home for the precious young women being rescued from trafficking.

They set survivors up to thrive beyond Sarah's Home through education and job opportunities. Each survivor has the opportunity to gain the skills needed to attain economic empowerment and to begin building relationships with supportive communities who champion each survivor long-term.

Best of all, they are surrounded by a loving, God-honoring community of adults who love and lead in healthy ways. Vicki and her team are currently looking to build and develop Daniel Academy, for boys caught in sex trafficking. It's hard to believe there is even a need for such a ministry here in America. But, unfortunately, horrific crimes against both boys and girls are only growing.

"Trafficking is a several billion dollar industry, making it the second largest illegal trade in the United States following the drug trade."

Would you please pray with me for Vicki as she leads Sarah's Home and builds Daniel Academy. She would love you to pray for her strength (she's 73 years old) and for staffing for both homes. She is adamant about hiring Christians filled with God's spirit, love and compassion.

that a young adult woman answered God's response to her prayer - and since that day has taken care of women and children. Vicki, you model the love and heartbeat of Jesus so well.
